Please register for the appropriate camp based on what your student will be playing if you have not done already, and are wanting to attend!

5th Grade Parent Frequently Asked Questions and Information Section
We are extremely excited that your 5th grade student has expressed an interest in participating in the FCI Band or Orchestra next year in the 6th grade! We know that for many of us, this may be your first child to show interest in participating in an instrumental ensemble. We hope that this section can answer a few questions and set your mind at ease about this awesome opportunity for your student!
THE PROCESS........
The band and orchestra directors visited all of the 5th grade music classes in the Spring to demonstrate the various instruments of the band and orchestra. They also talked about the great opportunity the students have to participate in these groups next year as 6th graders. An informational brochure was sent home with students as well as an instrument fitting permission form.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?........
Paige's Music has several different options of instrument rentals that will be discussed in detail at the meeting. They do a rent to own program which is the best route for beginning players. Pricing varies depending on the instrument. You can visit their website and even begin the rental process online at www.paigesmusic.com .
MY KID DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO PLAY AN INSTRUMENT, IS THAT OK?....
YES! Absolutely! That is what we do. No prior music experience is necessary to participate.
IS IT TOO LATE TO GET FITTED FOR AN INSTRUMENT?....
NOT AT ALL! The easiest way is to actually go to Paige's Music located at 65th and Binford Blvd. They have music experts that will take you and your student to a private room and fit them on an instrument.
Music has such a profound impact on our brains regardless of what our future career desires may be. The cognitive and motor skills developed by learning how to play an instrument help students in other areas of the academics and daily life. We learn how to work in group settings to achieve a common goal. Students are exposed to a unique way to express themselves through their instrument. There is a tremendous amount of pride a student gains through this activity. Discipline and time management skills are also developed when working in large groups like band and orchestra. Our students are involved in every activity you can think! Clubs, athletics, travel sports, etc. We only have two evening commitments through the year, and that is our concerts. We of course want to provide an opportunity for you to come witness the talent and hard work of these kids throughout the year.
